Check-in, check-out, and ID review

Operate atomic admission actions, re-entry, entrance counts, and staff-confirmed photo-ID decisions.

The scanner separates identification from state change. Reading a QR shows the ticket record; staff explicitly choose the appropriate action after reviewing the result.

Check in

For a valid holder who is currently outside, Check in performs an atomic admission. A successful admission:

  • Marks the ticket holder inside.
  • Records the action time and available operator or gate context.
  • Increments the ticket's entrance count.
  • Updates the admission history shown to later scans and administrators.

Repeated taps or concurrent devices cannot legitimately create separate state transitions from the same outside state.

Check out

For a holder currently inside, Check out requires confirmation that the person is exiting. Successful check-out marks the holder outside but does not invalidate the ticket.

The same attendee can then re-enter. Their next successful check-in increments the entrance count again, giving staff and administrators a clear re-entry history.

Photo-ID review

When the event requires ID review, the person holding the scanner must record one of two decisions before admission:

  • ID confirmed — the presented identification matches the attendee.
  • ID rejected — the identification does not match or is not acceptable.

The scanner does not photograph, upload, or algorithmically verify the document. A rejection never checks the holder in. Confirmed and rejected decisions are counted per ticket so operators can review repeated attempts.

Check-out does not require a new ID decision. The next re-entry follows the event's current admission rule.

Staff decision guide

  1. Verify that the result is valid for the displayed event.
  2. Compare ticket type and attendee identity with the person present.
  3. Complete the ID decision if required.
  4. Choose check-in or confirmed check-out based on the current door state.
  5. Wait for the success result before moving to the next person.

Do not override an invalid ticket by editing application data. Escalate the customer to an operator who can inspect the paid order and issued ticket in BTCPay administration.
